Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand advocated cooperation on science, technology and innovation at the ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting

The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand attended the ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting where he advocated ASEAN-Russia cooperation on science, technology and innovation, especially vaccine and the BCG Economy including alternative energy.
 
On 4 August 2021, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand attended the ASEAN-Russia Ministerial Meeting as part of the 54th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings. The Meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Mahendra Siregar, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and H.E. Mr. Igor Morgulov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
 
The Meeting discussed ASEAN-Russia cooperation in all dimensions under its Strategic Partnership in order to prepare for the 4th ASEAN-Russia Summit to mark 25 years of ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership, which will be held back-to-back with the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits in October 2021.  
 
The Meeting also expressed appreciation for Russia’s support of ASEAN Centrality and its active participation in ASEAN-led mechanisms, particularly the East Asia Summit (EAS), the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM-Plus).
 
The Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs encouraged Russia to pursue practical cooperation in the areas identified under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Thailand also welcomed Russia’s proposal to declare the year 2022 as the ASEAN-Russia Year of Science, Technology and Industrial Cooperation, and looked forward to closer cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, including science, technology and innovation, that can contribute to the post-pandemic recovery and sustainable development, especially on vaccine and the Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model including alternative energy.
