Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs proposed cooperation towards resilient and sustainable recovery, promoted the utilisation of technology and innovation, and advocated the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model in the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC) +1 with the Republic of Korea.
On 3 August 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC) +1 with the Republic of Korea (ROK) via video conference. H.E. Mr. Chung Eui-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the ROK, and the Secretary-General of ASEAN also attended the Meeting.
The Meeting reviewed the cooperation under the ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations in the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions. The main focus include ways to address the COVID-19 challenges, while stressing the importance of cooperation on equitable access and distribution of vaccines, as well as ways to promote sustainable recovery and socio-economic resilience. The Meeting also discussed preparation for the 22nd ASEAN-ROK Summit, scheduled to be held in October 2021.
Thailand proposed cooperation towards resilient and sustainable recovery by promoting the utilisation of the ROK’s technology and innovation to improve capacities of the public health sector, R&D on vaccines and medicines. Thailand also invited the ROK to increase economic opportunities by enhancing cooperation through the “Connecting the Connectivities” initiative, particularly investment in smart and environmental-friendly infrastructure and future industries. Thailand also presented the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, as an approach towards promoting sustainability, which is in line with the ROK’s “Green New Deal”.
The Meeting also exchanged views on regional and international issues such as developments in the Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea.
