Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha chaired the second meeting of the National Committee on the Preparation of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and Related Meetings in 2022 as Thailand will take over the APEC hosting from New Zealand in November this year. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies of Thailand will foster close cooperation with other APEC member economies to accelerate the post-COVID-19 economic recovery and promote sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth.
On 12 July 2021, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand chaired the second meeting of the National Committee on the Preparation of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and Related Meetings in 2022. The relevant government agencies and private sector are developing initiatives and projects, in coordination with other member economies and regional partners, to ensure tangible outcomes and benefits for people and businesses. One of the objectives is to build capacity in digital economy, sustainable transportation, renewable energy, low carbon emission, innovative waste management, and structural reform to promote inclusive economic participation and access to opportunities.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and Silpakorn University are co- organising the APEC 2022 Thailand Logo Competition under the Fifth National Youth Design Awards to promote youth engagement in the APEC hosting as well as the Thai creative economy. Young designers submitted close to 600 APEC 2022 logo designs. The winning one will be used throughout Thailand's hosting.
To welcome delegates and visitors from around the world, Thailand places great importance to safe and firm entry and public health measures and explores an appropriate meeting format, taking into account the impacts on the environment and the evolving nature of the pandemic as top priorities.
