President of the French Republic’s visit to Thailand as APEC’s Guest of the Chair

H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic and his delegation, total of 120 persons (including press), are scheduled to visit Thailand during 16 – 18 November 2022 to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) as Guest of the Chair upon Thailand’s invitation. Apart from APEC’s programme, President Macron is scheduled to have a bilateral meeting with H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, on 17 November 2022, at the Government House. After the bilateral discussions, Prime Minister Prayut will also host luncheon in honour of President Macron and his delegation, including H.E. Mrs. Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the French Republic, who will also join in this trip.

During the visit, both sides will issue the Joint Press Statement, outlining the priorities under the Roadmap for Thai – French Relations (2022 - 2024) which was signed on 22 February 2022, in Paris, France. The Roadmap consists of 4 pillars, political and security, economic, people-to-people and global issues, with the objective to establish the Strategic Partnership between Thailand and France by 2024.

The French President’s participation in APEC as Guest of the Chair will support the theme “Open. Connect. Balance.” under Thailand’s chairmanship, especially Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model which synchronises with the global issues which France and the European Union are pursuing i.e. digital transition, green transition, sustainability.

This visit to Thailand of the French President is the first after 16 years from the last State Visit by President Jacques Chirac during 17 - 18 February 2006.
