On 27 November 2025, the Prince Mahidol Award (PMA) Foundation under the Royal Patronage held the annual joint press conference to announce the Prince Mahidol Award Laureates for 2025. The announcement was made by Professor Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, as Vice President of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation. Also in attendance were Mr. Panidone Pachimsawat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Information, on behalf of the Director-General of the Department of Information, as the Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Public Relations of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation; Professor Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Chairman of the International Award Committee of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation; and Dr. Christine Ross, Country Director, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), on behalf of the Ambassador of the U.S. to Thailand.
 
This year's results are as follows:
 
In the field of Medicine, Doctor Terry Dean King, MD. from the U.S., was awarded the prize for his outstanding achievements in developing medical innovations and for his contributions to improving the quality of life of patients with congenital heart defects worldwide through the advancement of minimally invasive treatment technologies, which have benefited the health and well-being of hundreds of millions of people around the world.
 
In the field of Public Health, Professor Dr.Walter C. Willett, MD, MPH, DrP. from the U.S., was awarded the prize for his pioneering research in the field of nutrition, which has had a profound impact on global public health promotion and on the formulation of preventive public health policies, thereby benefiting the health and well-being of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
 
The representative of the U.S. Ambassador to Thailand expressed appreciation to the PMA Foundation for conferring this prestigious honor upon the two laureates and further underscored the strengthening of Thailand – U.S. relations through medical and scientific excellence.
 
The Prince Mahidol Award was established in honor of HRH Prince Mahidol of Songkla as “The Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand.” The PMA recognizes individual(s) or institution(s) with outstanding and exemplary contributions to the advancement of international medical and public health services. The Award Presentation Ceremony is scheduled to be held on 28 January 2026 at the Chakri Throne Hall.
