On 28-29 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Luang Prabang, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), upon the invitation extended by H.E. Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, having assumed the 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship.

The AMM Retreat serves as the first Ministerial gathering under the new chairmanship. The Foreign Ministers will set out the direction of ASEAN cooperation for the year under the Lao PDR’s Chairmanship theme of “ASEAN: Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience” and follow up on the outcomes of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta last year. The Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues that impact the region such as the situation in Myanmar, with an aim to further promote ASEAN’s unity and centrality which will be key for the region in coping with various and emerging challenges.
