On 10 June 2022, H.E. U Chit Swe, Ambassador of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duty.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries, which share a common border of 2,401 kilometres. They also agreed to enhance cooperation in a wide range of areas of mutual interest, including economic and labour cooperation, as well as efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Permanent Secretary stressed that Thailand attaches high importance to peace and stability in Myanmar, and supports close cooperation between Myanmar and ASEAN in advancing the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus and the work of the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair in this regard.
