On 13 March 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, met with H.E. Ms. Tanja Fajon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, during the latter’s first official visit to Thailand during 12-14 March 2025.
The two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade and investment, culture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, digital technology, food security, and security-related issues. They also exchanged views on enhancing regional and international cooperation, including Thailand-EU relations, ASEAN-EU relations, and collaboration within the United Nations framework. Both sides agreed that strengthening Thailand-Slovenia ties would bring mutual benefits and help connect the two regions. Additionally, H.E. Ms. Tanja Fajon extended an invitation for H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa to attend the Bled Strategic Forum (BSF) in Bled, Slovenia, on 1–2 September 2025.
Following their discussion, the two Ministers co-signed the Agreement between the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on Short-Stay Visa Exemption for holders of Diplomatic and Official/Service Passports, facilitating diplomatic exchanges and official visits. They also witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and strengthening diplomatic networks for young diplomats. In the afternoon, Minister Fajon delivered a keynote speech and participated in a panel discussion on "Women in Multilateralism", alongside distinguished experts on gender roles, diplomacy, and international relations.
Before departing Thailand on 14 March 2025, the Slovenian delegation met with Dr. Poj Aramwatananon, Deputy Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, to explore opportunities for expanding economic cooperation between Thailand and Slovenia.
