Director-General of the Department of European Affairs meets with President of Airbus Group (Thailand)

On 3 August 2026, Ms. Somrudee Poopornanake, Director-General of the Department of European Affair visited the Airbus Group (Thailand) and joined the meeting between Mr. Werapong Prapha, Thailand Trade Representative and Mr. Bert Porteman, President of Airbus Group (Thailand).

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between Thailand and Airbus in the aviation sector. Discussions focused on opportunities to enhance collaboration in developing the aviation industry, including progress of negotiations on the Thailand–European Union Free Trade Agreement (Thailand–EU FTA), which is expected to further expand trade and investment opportunities between Thailand and the European Union.

Both sides also exchanged views on promoting education, skills development, and capacity building to strengthen Thailand's aviation workforce, as well as advancing the country's ambition to become a regional aviation hub. In addition, they discussed Thailand's potential to develop Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production, highlighting its role in supporting the aviation industry's transition toward greater sustainability and contributing to global decarbonization efforts.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued public–private collaboration in fostering innovation, enhancing competitiveness and supporting the sustainable growth of Thailand's aviation industry.
