On 7 October 2023 a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the province of Herat, Afghanistan, resulting in a tragic toll of over 2,400 fatalities and affecting more than 10,000 people.

Responding to this humanitarian crisis, on 14 November 2023 the Royal Thai Government made a donation in the amount of 1 million Baht to the earthquake victims through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in order to enhance its efforts in humanitarian missions aimed at alleviating the suffering of those affected by the earthquake.

The Royal Thai Government has continued to provide humanitarian assistances to Afghanistan through International organisations. In June 2021, financial relief was provided through the World Food Programme to arrange foods and necessities to the Afghan people. Additionally in 2022, the Royal Thai Government donated 1 million Baht through the ICRC to assist victims of the earthquake in Paktika Province, where over 1,000 lives were lost in a similar tragic incident.
