On 31 July 2025, Ms. Wanalee Lohpechra, Acting Director-General of the Department of South Asia, Middle East and African Affairs, had a discussion with H.E. Ms. Rukhsana Afzaal, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Thailand.
Both sides discussed a work plan to advance bilateral relations in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Pakistan in 2026. Issues included (1) the follow-up on the outcomes of recent talks between the Foreign Ministers of Thailand and Pakistan on 22 July 2025 at the United Nations in New York; (2) the proposed date and agenda of the 3rd Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs scheduled to be held in Pakistan; (3) the revitalization of Thailand - Pakistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC); and (4) exchanges of high-level visits.
The Acting Director-General used this opportunity to inform the Ambassador of the facts regarding the Thai - Cambodian border situation. Both sides exchanged views on the ongoing tension within each country’s respective regions, reiterating the need for dialogue and dispute settlement through peaceful means in accordance with international norms and laws. In addition, the Acting Director-General also expressed appreciation to the Ambassador on the presentation of the replica of the sculpture of Fasting Buddha from Pakistan to the Ministry of Culture of Thailand at the National Museum in Bangkok on 31 July 2025.
