During 29 July – 1 August 2019, H.E. Mr. Jaime Antonio Pomareda Montenegro, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand as Guest of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand to attend the opening ceremony of the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and signed the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld. 
 
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru also had a pull-aside bilateral talk with the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the sidelines of the AMM. Both sides referred to the good momentum in the bilateral relations between Thailand and Peru that has been reinforced by the Royal Visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to Peru in April 2019. The Thai people highly appreciated the warm hospitality extended to Her Royal Highness during the said trip and the excellent arrangements made by the Peruvian side. 
 
The Thai side highlighted the importance of Peru as the only Strategic Partner of Thailand in Latin America and praised Peru as a top grower and exporter of high-quality quinoa. Meanwhile, the Peruvian side wished to further strengthen cooperation with Thailand in preventing and suppressing narcotic drugs as well as cooperation under the framework of ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance.
