          On 1 August 2019, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand held a bilateral meeting with Honorable Michael Pompeo, Secretary of State of the United States of America during his official visit to Thailand to attend the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings at the Centara Grand at Central World Bangkok.

          Secretary Pompeo congratulated Thailand on the recent election. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen the long-standing alliance of over 200 years and to deepen multi-faceted cooperation between Thailand and the United States, especially in the realms of security, defense as well as trade and investment, including the long-existing United States’ investment in Thailand and the growing Thai investment in the United States. Both sides also agreed to continue to advance the positive momentum of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

          At the regional level, both sides discussed ways to further enhance cooperation between Thailand and the United States as well as Thailand’s constructive role in the region.  The U.S. commended Thailand and ASEAN for their achievements, including the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.  Both sides were pleased that the 2nd Indo-Pacific Business Forum would be held in Thailand in November, which will help promote economic and business opportunities in the region.

           Both sides also took this opportunity to exchange views on recent developments within the region, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
