Thailand took over Chairmanship of the ASEAN London Committee

        On 22 July 2019, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata took over the Chairmanship of ASEAN London Committee (ALC) from the previous Chair, Singapore. He chaired the fourth ALC Meeting of 2019 to map out ALC’s plan of activities in the next 6 months, as well as a planned trip of the ALC to Dublin, Ireland, with a view to further strengthen ASEAN - Irish relations and through Ireland to the EU.  

         The ASEAN London Committee (ALC) was established since the inception of ASEAN. Members comprise of Ambassadors and High Commissioners of ASEAN to the the UK and Ireland. The main objectives of the ALC are to raise the visibility and awareness of ASEAN in the UK and Ireland, and to further strengthen cordial relations between ASEAN and British as well as Irish societies. Each year the ALC is set to meet, both formally and informally, on a regular basis to exchange of views and keep each other updated of relevant developments necessary for their respective missions. Various cultural programmes of activities in the name of ASEAN, such as film, food etc. have been always undertaken in order to achieve the objective of promoting people-to-people relations.
