On 10 May 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand co-hosted the Iftar Dinner for the diplomatic corps from Muslim countries in Thailand, Islamic scholars and religious leaders, as well as prominent figures from the Thai Muslim community at the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand.
On this occasion, Mr. Jesda Katavetin, Director-General, Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, presented a contribution of 200,000 baht from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Mr. Samart Maluleem, President of Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand, in support of the Iftar Dinner. In his welcome remarks, the Director-General stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has attached high importance to the strengthening of relations between Thailand and Muslim countries and supporting of the Islamic affairs and the Thai Muslim community. The Ministry has provided good care to the annual Haj pilgrims from Thailand and to Thai Muslim students abroad as well as supported the annual Maulid Nabi and other activities of the Office of the Sheikhul Islam of Thailand and other Islamic organisations in Thailand.
The Iftar Dinner is an evening meal when Muslims break their fasts during the Holy Month of Ramadan. It holds a special spiritual value to all Muslims. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Foundation of Islamic Centre of Thailand, has co-hosted the Iftar Dinner annually to promote good relations between the Muslim diplomatic corps and the Muslim community in Thailand. This year, members of the Muslim diplomatic corps in Thailand from 19 countries and 500 prominent figures and distinguished guests from the Thai Muslim community attended the event.
