On Monday ๒๒ April ๒๐๑๙ His Excellency Mr. Chainarong Keratiyutwong, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt, paid a courtesy call on His Eminence Professor Dr. Ahmad Mohammad Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al-Azhar of Egypt, at His Eminence’s Office, and delivered one million-Baht financial contribution from the Royal Thai Government to His Eminence aiming to support Al Azhar University’s mission on education, as well as to extend his greetings to His Eminence on the occasion of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed appreciations to His Eminence and Al Azhar University in educating moderate Islam and in fostering welfare of the approximate ๓,๙๐๐ Thai students including providing special humanitarian assistance on several cases. Therefore the Thai students in Egypt are believed to be well placed and to be the university’s good exemplars in propagating moderate Islam to the Thai community after their graduation.

On the same occasion His Eminence thanked the Royal Thai Government for the cordial gesture and the consecutive annual financial contribution. The Grand Imam ensured that the said contribution will be used for the benefit of the Thai students’ education and the Thai students will be under good care of the university and the Office of the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al Azahr as it has always been.

The Royal Thai Embassy initiated the Financial Contribution Project in ๒๐๐๗.   Since then the Royal Thai Government has successively extend its goodwill toward Al Azhar University through the donation of one million Baht for over ๑๒ years with its aims to strengthen closer relations and cooperation between the Thai side and Al Azhar as well as to express its gratitude on the Grand Imam Sheikh of Al Azhar and the university in rendering both scholarship and education for several thousand of Thai Muslim youths for more than half century.
