On 17 April 2019, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Federative Republic of Brazil celebrate their 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Since April 1959, the two countries have enjoyed cordial relations and witnessed steady growth and expansion in their bilateral cooperation, which now encompasses a broad spectrum of areas, including trade and investment, defense technology, and agriculture. Thailand and Brazil also exchange their support for each other’s candidacies in multilateral frameworks.
Throughout the past 60 years, the exchanges of high-level visits between Thailand and Brazil have continually provided impetuses for closer and more mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
The highest point of our exchanges of visits was in 1993, when His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun, the then Crown Prince of Thailand, paid an official visit to Brazil. Since 1959, four Thai Prime Ministers have also visited Brazil.
Thailand and Brazil are now venturing into a new decade. Thailand values highly the longstanding ties with Brazil and will continue to elevate our collaboration to new heights. Despite the vast physical distance between the two countries, both governments will continue to join hands to encourage their peoples in all sectors, whether public, private, or civil society, to forge even closer relations and open more avenues for deepening our cooperation in many more years to come.
