The Department of Consular Affairs has set out the 5H strategy comprising strengthening knowledge that is useful for livelihood (Head), promoting vocational skills and developing capabilities (Hand), strengthening awareness regarding physical and mental health care (Health), promoting opportunities to access mental support (Heart), and building harmony among the Thai community (Harmony), as a framework and a roadmap to propel the mission to protect and strengthen approximately 1.6 million Thai people residing abroad. In this connection, the Department of Consular Affairs has established a multi-disciplinary committee consisting of other governmental agencies concerned to reinforce the strength and role of Thai people abroad.
Even though there are approximately 165 Thai people residing in Mexico, the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico sees the need to enhance their vocational skills. Therefore, on 30 - 31 March 2019, the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico, together with the Department of Consular Affairs, invited 2 experts from the Department of Skill Development, Ministry of Labour, namely, Ms. Kanokwan Thathritham and Mrs. Nathiniwarat Savettatatpimuk, to provide a short training course on making fancy candles and moulding flowers from soap flour at the Ambassador’s residence. Approximately 40 participants took part in this activity.
This activity has successfully increased vocational skills of the Thai community in Mexico. Moreover, it has served as the channel to pass on the Thai local knowledge and creativity to them so that they can further make use of it as a part-time job.
