On 25 – 27 March 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand in cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) organized the 2nd Workshop on Treaty Body Reporting at the Royal Princess Larnluang Hotel in Bangkok to enhance the capacity of government officers in charge of reporting the country’s implementation of human rights treaty obligations. The workshop was attended by 37 government officers and it was conducted specifically to raise awareness and understanding and develop the skills necessary for drafting and presenting a country report. It also supported the implementation of Thailand’s human rights National Agenda to help advance the innovation-oriented ‘Thailand 4.0’ policy as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, scheduled for the years 2018 and 2019.
Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, Director-General of the Department of International Organisations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, delivered opening remarks, emphasising that treaty body reporting is important not only as a treaty obligation but also as a process in raising awareness and understanding of international human rights norms and standards, sharing knowledge, experiences and information, building a working culture across sectors, and keeping the momentum of translating human rights commitments into actions.
The participants at the workshop had the opportunity to learn from and exchange views as well as experiences with Ms. Maria Virginia Bras Gomes, former Chair of the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), and Ms. Nosy Ramamonjisoa, Secretary of CESCR, about the human rights treaty system and mechanisms, including procedures and methods of working on a country report by a State party.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in collaboration with the OHCHR organized the 1st Workshop on Treaty Body Reporting in Thailand during 8 – 10 February 2018 in Chacherngsao Province as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ efforts to support the promotion and protection of human rights in Thailand.
