On 30 March 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand in cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy, Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia launched a Premiere of Thai film “Homestay” at the CGV Grand Indonesia cinema in Jakarta. The Premiere was attended by Mr. Parkpoom Wongpoom (film director), Mr. Teeradon Supapunpinyo or James (actor), Mr. Natthasit Kotimanaswanich or Best (actor), Executive Director of Thai National Federation of Motion Pictures and Contents Associations, and representatives from GDH 559 Co., Ltd. 

 

H.E. Mr. Songpol Sukchan, Ambassador of Thailand to Indonesia, delivered opening remarks. The event was very well received by the Indonesian audience as all the 600 seats in the cinema were fully booked. In addition, there were activities for the local media and Indonesian fans including a press conference, exclusive interview, and Indonesian fan meeting with an aim to promote Thai film in Indonesian film market and maintain the popularity of Thai films and actors in Indonesia. Since 2009, Thai films have been popular in Indonesia seen from websites created on Thai films fans to exchange information and follow Thai actors’ social media accounts.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has continuously conducted activities to promote Thai films and TV series abroad annually in order to raise awareness of the potential of Thai film industry. These projects help to promote understanding of Thai culture and strengthen people-to-people relations.
