On 16 February 2019, Ambassador Nantana Sivakua, together with Heads of ASEAN Missions in Canberra attended the opening ceremony of “ASEAN Village” at the 23rd  National Multicultural Festival in Canberra. Mr. Brendan M. Smyth, ACT Commissioner for International Engagement kindly gave remarks during the opening ceremony.

The ASEAN Village was intended to demonstrate the unity and solidarity of ASEAN Community and raise ASEAN awareness among Australian public. Embassies of ASEAN Member States setup booths to promote their culture and tourism. In the afternoon, Mr. Chris Steel, ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs, also visited the ASEAN Village.

The Royal Thai Embassy together with Tourism Authority of Thailand in Sydney setup Thailand booth within the ASEAN Village to promote Thailand and Thai tourism through various activities. There were approximately 2,000 people visited Thailand booth.

The National Multicultural Festival is one of the most important and biggest annual event of Canberra. It has brought together different communities and Embassies in Canberra in a celebration of Australia’s diversity. There were more than 200,000 people attending the three-day event and had about 80 countries including Thailand participating in this Festival.
