On 13 February 2019, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a working visit to Malaysia to follow up on his discussions with Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, who visited Thailand on 19 January 2019. On this occasion, the Thai Foreign Minister paid a courtesy call on H.E. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and met with his Malaysian counterpart to discuss the future direction of Thailand - Malaysia relations and to further enhance bilateral cooperation in accordance with the outcome of Prime Minister Mahathir’s visit to Thailand on 24 October 2018.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the close and cordial relations between Thailand and Malaysia, which have clearly picked up momentum in recent months. The two sides reiterated their commitment to promote cooperation on security and economic development along the border areas. In this connection, the Thai Foreign Minister proposed that the two sides work together to develop and link the Special Economic Zones in both countries to elevate the quality of life and create a peaceful environment for the peoples in Southern Thailand and Northern Malaysia. The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on the peace process in the Southern Border Provinces of Thailand and agreed that the peace dialogue will continue with Malaysia as the facilitator.
