Thai silk has entered the high fashion stage in Spain. Maria Lafuente, top Spanish designer used Thai silk from the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Technique under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand as her iconic material in her Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection under the name Fah-Pratan (Gift from the Sky). 

The launching of Fah – Pratan collection took place during the Madrid Mercedes Fashion Week on 30 January 2019 at the NH in Collection Eurobuilding in Madrid. More than 300 guests, consist of top fashion designers, fashion gurus and leading medias in fashion attended the event.

The inspiration from the Fah-Pratan collection is Thailand, especially Thai architecture, which comes from Ms. Lafuente’s experience from her visit to Thailand in December 2018 to participate in the 8th Celebration of Silk: Thai Silk Road to the World 2018 in Bangkok. During the said event, Ms. Lafuente visited the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Technique under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, as well as other cultural heritage in Thailand.

The Fah-Pratan collection attached importance to sustainable development as well as women empowerment.  In this collection Ms. Lafuente also focuses on enhancing the capacity of disadvantaged people of all groups to be able to uplift their livelihood and be able to live with stability in the society.  Ms. Lafuente also sees the beauty and uniqueness of the Thai silk, and used it to fit the Western fashion. The Collection also highlights Thai handicrafts, which highly impressed by the audience.
