“Thai-Philippine Cultural Performances” to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Thailand-the Philippines Diplomatic Relations”

          On 22 January 2019, the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, in collaboration with Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts, Banditpatanasilp Institute of Thailand, University of Santo Tomas (UST), and University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus, organized “Thai-Philippine Cultural Performances”.
          The performances are the first among series of activities to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and the Philippines that will be held throughout this year.
          “Thai-Philippine Cultural Performances” were conducted during 09:00-11:00 hrs. at Dr. Robert C. Sy Grand Ballroom, Paredes Building, University of Santo Tomas, and during 13:30-15:00 hrs. at College of Music, Abelardo Hall Auditorium, University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus. The three sets of Thai traditional performances included “the Pursuit of Supanna Matcha”, an episode from Khon or Thai Masked Dance Drama in Ramakien or Thai Ramayana, “Natnaree Sri Ayothaya”, a creative dance of Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts, to show the beauty of Thai women and delicate style of Thai dancing, and “Rum Wong” or Thai traditional folk dance, which the audiences had chances to join in.
          Besides the Thai traditional performances, the cultural performances were exchanged through Philippine Folk Songs by Santo Tomas Orchestra and traditional dances; Binasuan, Tinikling, and Magandang Pilipinas by UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe. The University of the Philippines also performed “Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino”, Filipino traditional drum show, which the audiences joined in. The performances at both universities, which followed by the reception, attracted around 500 and 300 of teachers and students of the University, diplomatic corps, representatives of Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Education, members of Team Thailand, members of the Philippine-Thai Cultural Organization (PTCO) and media, respectively.  
          This cultural performances and exchanges support the endeavor of Thailand and the Philippines to further promote friendship, better understanding and cooperation between the peoples, which is the basis of enhanced relations in all dimensions. Teachers and students of
Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts also had opportunity to exchange and network with University of Santo Tomas, the Philippines’ prestigious and oldest university in Asia, and the University of the Philippines, one of the leading universities of the country. The universities play a significant part in the history of Thai-Philippines bilateral relations and visited by many Thai important persons.
