On 13 November 2018, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the Opening Ceremony of the 33rd ASEAN Summit, Plenary Session of the 33rd ASEAN Summit, Presentation by ASEAN Business Advisory Council, and Working Dinner for ASEAN leaders hosted by H.E. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, at Suntec Singapore International Convention Centre, Singapore.

During the Plenary Session of the 33rd ASEAN Summit, the Prime Minister delivered interventions highlighting Thailand’s issues of interest such as building a sustainable ASEAN Community, ASEAN’s policies towards external partners, and measures to prepare ASEAN for the future amidst regional and global challenges. Thailand views that ASEAN should focus on three issues namely the continuity of promoting a resilient and innovative ASEAN, building a sustainable ASEAN, and creating strategic partnerships with dialogue partners and the international community. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of enhancing an ASEAN-Centred regional architecture based on the principle of 3M’s - mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual benefit.

Moreover, Thailand sees that ASEAN Member States should work together to address regional issues and challenges, especially ways to tackle natural disasters, promotion of sustainable development, sustainable solutions for fishery, and joint efforts to find sustainable solutions for Rakhine State through humanitarian assistance and economic development.

Earlier that day, the Prime Minister attended and delivered his remarks at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (ABIS) titled “Business and Investment in Thailand and ASEAN” at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
