          On Tuesday 14th August 2018, a book handover ceremony was organized at University of Calcutta (Alipore Campus). The ceremony was presided by Prof. Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Dipak Kumar Kar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lipi Ghosh, Head of the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, and Ms. Venus Asawapoom, Acting Consul-General. A number of professors and students from the University of Calcutta attended the ceremony.

          University of Calcutta’s Thai Corner at Alipore Campus Library is recently updated with 180,000 Indian Rupees (100,000 Thai Baht) worth of new books on various subjects from history, sociology, geography, archeology, arts, to contemporary Thailand, courtesy of the Royal Thai-Consulate General in Kolkata. The new collection includes titles like “King Bhumibol Adulyadej: A Life’s Work” and “Siam: Through the Lens of John Thomson 1865-66”, along with books on Thai architecture, language, movies, and street food. Thai Corner is an ongoing project which began in 2007, in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and India.
