          During 5 - 8 September 2018, Mr. Damrong Kraikruan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a visit to Mongolia and co-chaired the First Meeting of the Consultative Body of Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Mongolia with Mr. Davaasuren Damdinsurin, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.

          Both sides discussed and identified key areas to promote closer cooperation, particularly on trade and investment, tourism, and technical cooperation. Thailand Mongolia agreed to promote exchanges of high-level visits. During the exchange of views on regional and international levels, they reaffirmed their commitments to further strengthen cooperation between the two sides at various fora where Thailand and Mongolia are both members. In this connection, Thailand agreed to host the Second Meeting of the Consultative Body on Bilateral Cooperation in Thailand.

          The Deputy Permanent Secretary also paid courtesy calls on H.E. Mr. Damdin Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Mr. Tumen Tegshjargal, Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia, and Mr. G. Bilguun, Acting State Secretary of Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia.  During the visit, the Thai side expressed appreciation to the Mongolian side for hosting the First Meeting of the Consultative Body and for inviting Moo Pa (Wild Boar) Academy Football Team to visit Mongolia. They also exchanged views on ways to deepen cooperation at all levels. In this connection, the Deputy Permanent Secretary expressed Thailand’s readiness to welcome the Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia to Thailand in the near future.

          Moreover, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to promote closer relations between relevant government agencies of Thailand and Mongolia. In order to promote closer economic cooperation, the Thai side viewed that both sides should conclude the Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments and the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion. The Thai side urged the Mongolian side to expedite its internal procedures with regard to these two agreements.

          The Consultative Body on Bilateral Cooperation between Thailand and Mongolia was established in 2013. The Consultative Body was established to serve as a mechanism to cover all areas of cooperation, with an aim to review, assess and enhance areas of cooperation between the two sides. Thailand and Mongolia established diplomatic relations on 5 March 1974.
