On 27 August 2018, Mr. Damrong Kraikruan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Mr. Henrique da Silveira Sardinha Pinto, Undersecretary General for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, co-chaired the 2nd Meeting of Political Consultations on Matters of Common Interest between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in Bangkok.

The Thai and Brazilian delegations discussed various issues to further promote closer bilateral relations, including celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Brazil in 2019, the expansion of trade and investment, and cooperation in areas such as agriculture, defence, tourism, technical cooperation, energy, narcotics suppression, and sports. They also exchanged views on regional cooperation, multilateral frameworks and global issues.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand also hosted a luncheon in honour of the Undersecretary General for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil and his delegation.

This Political Consultations mechanism was established in 2012 as a forum for the two foreign ministries to hold regular dialogue to follow up on extensive areas of cooperation, as well as to exchange views and information on key issues of mutual interests. The first meeting was held in Brasilia in 2015.
