As this year marks the auspicious occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, I have the honour to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency and, through you, to the people of Myanmar.

To mark this milestone, I have further the honour to reassure Your Excellency of the Royal Thai Government’s commitment to working closely with the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to promote development, progress, and prosperity for our two countries, as well as for ASEAN and the region. Furthermore, I take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the people of Myanmar, for entrusting in and promoting a most cordial and constructive relationship with the Kingdom of Thailand.

from Her Excellency Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,
State Counsellor of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar,
to His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.),
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand,
on the Occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the Diplomatic Relations
between Thailand and Myanmar
(24 August 2018)

On the auspicious occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Kingdom of Thailand, on behalf of the government and people of Myanmar and myself, I have the honour to extend to Your Excellency and, through you, to the government and people of the Kingdom of Thailand our warmest congratulations and best wishes for their continued progress and prosperity.

Myanmar and Thailand are not only close neighbours sharing a long border and cultural affinities, but also fellow members of the ASEAN family with common aspirations. Over the past 70 years, Myanmar and Thailand have enjoyed friendly relations based on good neighbourliness and the principles of peaceful coexistence and have cooperated in many areas which bring mutual benefit to our peoples.

Through the frequent exchange of high level visits and building of personal friendship between the leaders, the existing friendly relations between our two countries have further advanced to a natural strategic partnership over the years. Myanmar and Thailand are also working together within various sub-regional frameworks for the peace and prosperity of our region, and helping each other in times of need. I firmly believe that the bonds of friendship and trade and economic cooperation between our two countries will continue to flourish in the coming years.

I would like to take this opportunity of this auspicious occasion to convey my best wishes for your good health and happiness and for the continued progress and prosperity of the Kingdom of Thailand and its people.
