The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand will organise ASEAN Day 2018 on 8th August 2018 at Vithes Samosorn, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN. The objective of the celebration is to raise awareness on ASEAN and Thailand’s readiness to assume the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019 among Thai youths and the Thai public. The celebration will consist of a variety of activities, including promotion of environmental awareness.

H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, will preside over the ASEAN flag hoisting ceremony and the opening ceremony of ASEAN Day 2018 celebration, which will be attended by Ambassadors of the ASEAN Member States to Thailand and senior officials of the Ministry. Another event is the launch of the book titled "Fifty Years of Thailand in ASEAN". The book is a collection of interviews of Thai diplomats and well- known figures in Thai foreign policy, particularly on the roles and achievements of Thailand in ASEAN. Dr. Darmp Sukontasap, Representative of Thailand to the Governing Council of ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation (ASEAN-IPR) is the editor of the book who will conduct the book launch. The book launch will then be followed by a seminar on “Thailand's ASEAN Chairmanship: Challenges and Opportunities”.

During the ASEAN Day 2018 celebration, students from across the country will participate in the main events as well as activities including ASEAN exhibitions, ASEAN game station, ‘ASEAN for Environment Protection’ station and the ASEAN Quiz. The event is expected to be attended by around 300 teachers and students from 83 schools.

On 9th August 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will organise a seminar entitled "Enhancing the Network of ASEAN Library". The seminar is a continuation and a follow-up of “ASEAN Library: One Province, One School” project, initiated since 2014 aimed to provide sustainable tools of learning about ASEAN for students and communities in remote areas. At present, 44 libraries in 44 provinces have been launched. Moreover, on the occasion of Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to present more libraries in every province in Thailand.
