On 1 August 2018, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Interface with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) Representatives and the Meeting of the Commission on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (SEANWFZ Commission) in Singapore which are part of the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and other related meetings.

The meeting with AICHR representatives, which included Dr. Seree Nonthasoot as Representative of Thailand to AICHR, was briefed on the committee’s progress as well as plans and activities to support human rights in the region. The meeting also discussed how to approach human rights in a way that places people at the centre, including promotion and protection of the rights of children, women, elderly, persons with disability, and other vulnerable groups. This approach would be in line with the development that leaves no one behind.

The SEANWFZ Commission supported Thailand’s proposal to exchange best practices with other nuclear weapon free zones in order to enhance ASEAN’s role in denuclearization and nuclear non-proliferation on the international arena. The meeting also recognised the Five-Year ASEAN Network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic Energy (ASEANTOM) Work Plan which will help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals such as using nuclear technology to develop public health, agriculture, and nuclear energy for peace.

On 2 August 2018, the Foreign Minister will pay a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore, attend the 51st Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM), the Signing Ceremony of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) by the Argentine Republic and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Post-Ministerial Meetings (PMC) with Japan, the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, and New Zealand.
