The Royal Thai Embassy, in cooperation with the School of Hospitality of Balearic Islands (Escola d'Hoteleria de les Illes Balears-EHIB) and IB 3 Television of Balearic Islands, organized the Thai cooking demonstration for the teachers and instructors of EHIB and for public broadcasting in IB3 TV’s Cinc Dies Programme on 12 June 2018.

The cooking demonstration at the EHIB was aimed train Spanish chefs how to cook Thai food. Three well-known Thai dishes, Som Tam (green papaya salad), Tom Yam Kung (shrimp hot and sour soup), and Pad Thai (stir-fried Thai noodles) were demonstrated by Thai chef.  Participants had a chance to taste the authentic Thai flavours, followed by questions and answers about Thai cuisine.

The cooking demonstration in the Cinc Dies Programe aimed to enhance the knowledge about Thai cuisine to the public of Balearic Islands.  Two dishes were being demonstrated, Tom Yam Kung and Som Tam.

The cooking demonstration in the Balearic Island was part of the Embassy’s series of activities to promote Thai Gastronomy in Spain. Previous ones included the cooking demonstrations in Madrid, Barcelona, Asturias, Gijon, and Valencia.

Thai cuisine is not only well-known for its richness in flavours, but also in nutritional and medicinal properties, thanks to various types of vegetables and herbs being used in most of its dishes.  Thai food also reflects Thai identity and local wisdoms that have been passed on through generations and is much loved by tourists and foreigners around the world.
