On Friday 22 June 2018, H.E. Mrs. Christine Schraner Burgener, United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr.Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during her visit to Thailand after her first official trip to Myanmar in the capacity of Special Envoy on Myanmar.
 
On this occasion, the Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated H.E. Mrs. Burgener on her appointment as Special Envoy on Myanmar and reaffirmed Thailand's readiness to render support for her mission. The two sides exchanged views on various issues. The Thai side stressed on Thailand’s development assistance to the Rakhine State and informed about the progress on the return of the Myanmar displaced persons from Thailand on safe, dignified and voluntary basis.
 
H.E. Mrs. Christine Schraner Burgener is currently the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Federal Republic of Germany, and was the Swiss Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand during 2009 - 2015. She has been recognised as a Southeast Asian specialist with her extensive experiences in the region.
