On 13 June 2018, Mr. Jean Asselborn, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during his official visit to Thailand on 13 – 14 June 2018, as Guest of the Ministry.
The Luxembourgish Foreign Minister expressed interest in Thailand’s political, economic and logistics developments. He was impressed with the briefing on the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and believed it was a comprehensive long-term strategy for Thailand in the region. The Thai side welcomed Luxembourg’s plan to bring a business delegation to visit Thailand in October this year. This will be an opportunity for the private sector from Luxembourg to explore investment prospects in Thailand, especially the EEC and financial sector. Moreover, Luxembourg also expressed interest in conducting a Social Security Agreement with Thailand.
The meeting also gave an opportunity for both sides to frankly exchange views on regional and multilateral issues, including the development of ACMECS (Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy), of which Thailand will host the Summit during 15 - 16 June 2018.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue close cooperation as 2019 will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Luxembourg.
