            On 1 May 2018, H.E. Mr. Vitavas Srivihok, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United Nations, co-hosted the 2018 International Vesak Day Commemorative Event, with the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, in the General Assembly Hall, United Nations Headquarters, New York.  The event was participated by the President of the General Assembly, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives, high-level representatives of United Nations Member States, and Honourable Monks.  Participants gave their best wishes to one another on this auspicious occasion as well as reflected and drew inspirations from the teachings of Lord Buddha, which remain valid in today’s context.  Participants widely acknowledged that Lord Buddha’s teachings are still relevant and closely resonate the principles and the work of the United Nations, which include peace, compassion, human rights and human dignity, non-violence, leading to peaceful coexistence amongst humanity themselves and with nature around them.

           The Event was also attended by monks of different sects of Buddhism as well as communities of Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike.  Participants of the Event also include Representatives from various Thai Government agencies based in New York, Thai monks and Thai communities in New York and surrounding areas in total of over 100 persons turned up to commemorate this auspicious Event.
