H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, paid a visit to Thailand as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand during 13 - 14 May 2018 to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) at the United Nations Conference Center, Bangkok on 14 May 2018.
On the same day, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, hosted a working luncheon in honour of the President of the General Assembly, during which both sides exchanged views on important global issues and a wide range of topics including Thailand’s potentials as the regional hub of the UN agencies, UN reform, cooperation with the UN through UN Partnership Agreement Framework (UNPAF), multi-stakeholder approach towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), business and human rights, migration, Thailand’s Chairmanship of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) in 2018 and ASEAN Chairmanship in 2019.
The President of the General Assembly also visited the Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture in Pathumthani Province to learn about His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and its success story in achieving the SDGs. The President was impressed with the Royal Activities and how the application of SEP has reaped benefits for the peoples of Thailand.
This visit serves to enhance partnership between Thailand and the United Nations and provides an opportunity to reaffirm Thailand’s commitment, contribution and role on various global such as SEP for SDGs partnership, migration, UN reform, and linkages between sustaining peace and sustainable development.
