H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, is scheduled to attend and deliver opening remarks on behalf of the Prime Minister of Thailand at the opening of the 74th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) on 14 May 2018 at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok. The theme for this Session is “Inequality in the Era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
ESCAP organizes an annual Commission’s session around May every year. This year’s Session will take place from 11 to 16 May 2018. The Session will comprise of a senior officials segment during 11 - 12 May 2018 and a ministerial segment during 14 - 16 May 2018. Representatives from 53 member countries and nine associate members in the Asia and Pacific region are invited to exchange views, knowledge, and experience on key trends and pressing challenges that affect sustainable development in the region, as well as approve the program of work of ESCAP. The annual Commission’s session is an important opportunity for Thailand to share its vision and best practices in economic and social development.
This year, high-level representatives, including the President of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, President of the Republic of Kiribati, Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, will participate in the Commission’s session. In addition, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, will also be present and deliver his remarks during the opening session.
