H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly, is scheduled to pay a visit to Thailand as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during 13 - 14 May 2018. This is the first visit in his capacity as the President of the General Assembly. The President of the General Assembly will attend the 74th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to be held at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok on 14 May 2018.
On the same day, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, will host a working luncheon in honour of the President of the General Assembly to exchange views on global issues.
The President of the General Assembly will also pay a study visit to the Golden Jubilee Museum of Agriculture in Pathumthani province to learn about His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP) and its success in promoting sustainable development and SEP as an approach towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Thailand.
This visit is an opportunity to exchange views on global issues, such as linkages between sustainable development and sustaining peace, migration, and other security issues. The Thai side will also share its experiences on the implementation of the SDGs based on the SEP, which reflects the use of local wisdom and home-grown approaches to drive inclusive socio-economic development in tandem with global goals and international norms. Sharing this knowledge to other developing countries is part of Thailand’s commitment to diplomacy and South - South cooperation.
H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák concurrently serves as Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and as the 72nd President of the General Assembly from September 2017 to September 2018.
