On 27 April 2018, Mr. Jesda Katavetin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs and Mr. El - Obeid Mohammed Al - Obeid Rahma, Director-General of Arab and Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan attended the signing ceremony of four Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) on investment in the agriculture and aquaculture sector and fish market in the Red Sea State. The MoU was signed between the Thai and Sudanese private sectors at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan.

The MoU is an important part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand’s effort in promoting bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and the Sudan, particularly, facilitating Thai private sector ventures in the Sudan as an emerging market for Thai investors.

The Sudan is strategically located in north eastern Africa, connecting multiple landlocked countries to the Red Sea. As a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), with a market size of over 450 million peoples, the Sudan has the potential to be a significant investment destination for the Thai private sector, notably in the agriculture and aquaculture sector, fisheries and fishery-related industry sector, and energy infrastructure sector. With regards to bilateral trade, trade volume between Thailand and the Sudan in the first two months of 2018 has increased by more than 45 percent as compared to the same period last year.
