On 22 – 26 April 2018, His Excellency Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, the Minister of Public Health of the Kingdom of Thailand, led the Thai delegation from the Ministry of Public Health to the Republic of Cuba to attend "Cuba Health 2018” in Havana, including Dr. Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk, Permanent Secretary; Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong, Deputy Permanent Secretary; Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert, Advisor to the Office of the Permanent Secretary; and Dr. Supakit Sirilak, Chief of Inspector General, Office of the Permanent Secretary. Her Excellency Ms. Rommanee Kananurak, the Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba with residence in Mexico City, also participated in the event.
During the visit, the Minister of Public Health was a panellist in the panel discussion on “Universal Health Care and Sustainable Development” and signed an MOU between the Ministry of Public Health of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health of the Republic of Cuba on cooperation in the fields of health and medical research with His Excellency Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, the Cuban Minister of Public Health. The Thai delegation also met with representatives from leading Cuban biotechnology and vaccine research institutes such as Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), Molecular Immunology Center (CIM) and Finlay Vaccine Institute.
“Cuba Health 2018” is Cuba’s largest international convention on public health and medical science. More than 2,000 delegates from 80 countries worldwide and approximately 45 Ministers of Public Health from different countries attended the Convention. Cuba is recognized internationally for its excellence in medication and public health and has shared its expertise with numbers of developing countries.
