On 23 February 2018, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, representing H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, welcomed a United States Congressional delegation led by Congressman Robert Goodlatte (R-Virginia), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The bipartisan delegation comprises Congressman Blake Farenthold (R-Texas), Congressman Ted Yoho (R-Florida), Congressman Jason Smith (R-Missouri), Congressman Hank Johnson (D-Georgia), and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington).
During the call, the Foreign Minister and the Congressional delegation affirmed the close and cordial friendship between Thailand and the United States and our long standing alliance which is marked by 185 years of diplomatic relations and 200 years since initial contact. Moreover, both sides exchanged views on ways to further strengthen the two countries’ defence, security, and economic cooperation. The Congressional delegation commends Thailand’s earnest efforts and significant progress in redressing the problem of human trafficking and looks forward to continued cooperation between Thailand and the United States on this very important issue.
During the visit to Thailand, the Congression delegation also observed the Cobra Gold 18 which is the largest multi-national military exercise in the Asia-Pacific and currently taking place in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand.
