Thailand (The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society) and Australia will co-host the ASEAN-Australia Cybersecurity Workshop entitled “Strengthening Legal Implementation in Tackling Cybersecurity Challenges in the Region, on 13 February 2018 at Dusit Thani Bangkok. The Meeting will be preceded by a welcoming dinner in the evening of 12 February 2018. Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, and Dr. Tobias Feakin, Ambassador for Cybersecurity of Australia, will be giving Keynote Address to the participants of the workshop, emphasizing on the importance of a safe and secure cyberspace to the security, stability, as well as economic growth and development at both national and regional levels. This Workshop will help promote cooperation within and beyond ASEAN to address non-traditional security issues, which is in line with ASEAN Chairmanship 2018’s theme of “Resilience and Innovation”. 

          The Workshop is part of Thailand’s continued efforts to strengthen cooperation between other ASEAN Member States and dialogue partners in monitoring and tackling cyber threats, and enhancing coordination between cybersecurity-related agencies. 

          The ASEAN-Australia Cybersecurity Workshop, with participants from ASEAN Member States, Australia, and invited speakers from relevant sector, will explore and enhance ASEAN Member States’ capacity in addressing cybersecurity challenges by strengthening the implementation of existing legislations, legal frameworks, and offences related to cybercrime, and other transnational crime. The Workshop hopes to deepen understanding of each participating country’s legal mechanisms related to cybercrime and facilitate collaboration on criminal justice procedures on the issue. Participants of the Workshop are encouraged to take part in the table top exercise which will simulate a situation where there is an imminent threat to the security and stability of countries in the region. The Exercise will highlight the need to identify appropriate points of contact at the policy and technical levels to address serious ICT incidents in a timely manner.
