On 15 December 2017, H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as representative of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, signed the book of condolences at the Embassy of Romania in Bangkok, on the occasion of the passing of His Majesty King Michael I of Romania. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs was welcomed by H.E. Mr. Bogdan Badea, Ambassador of Romania.
His Majesty King Michael I passed away in Switzerland on 5 December 2017 at the age of 96.
