Training course on tilapia seed production for farmers and fisheries department officers from the Republic of Mozambique

During 1 – 12 December 2017, Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University (Kamphaeng Saen Campus), organized a training course in Thailand on tilapia seed production for 5 participants from the Republic of Mozambique including farmers and fisheries department officers. The objective is to provide knowledge on how to properly handle breeding of tilapia.

Throughout 2017, the Royal Thai Embassy in Maputo and TICA have set up a demonstration center of tilapia farming in Mozambique, under the Sustainable Community Development Project based on the Application of the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, including hatchery facility construction, tools and equipment supply, tilapia breeders and the support of Thai experts on aquaculture and tilapia farming management.

Participants from the Republic of Mozambique will learn hatchery and eggs collection techniques. Then, they will have a chance to visit Genetic research center in Pathumthani, Department of Fisheries, Tilapia fish farming in Kanchanaburi Province and Manit Farm in Petchaburi Province, as showcases of both public and private sectors.

This training course is an activity under the project based on the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, to be alternative community development for the Republic of Mozambique. It is the cooperation policy of Thailand to promote SEP for SDGs Partnership.
