H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, will join the 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits during 13 – 14 November 2017 in Manila, the Philippines. The ASEAN Leaders will also have meetings with external partners China, Japan, Republic of Korea, India, the United Nations (UN), the 20th ASEAN Plus Three Meeting, and the 12th East Asia Summit. There will also be summits to commemorate the 40th anniversary of ASEAN – US, ASEAN – Canada, and ASEAN – European Union (EU). On this occasion, the leaders will also meet with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and attend the ASEAN Plus Three Leaders Interface with East Asia Business Council. The Prime Minister will also attend the 9th Mekong – Japan Summit and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders’ Meeting at the sideline of the ASEAN Summit. It is expected that the leaders will discuss the next 20 – 30 years in anticipation of a rules-based and people-centred ASEAN Community spanning political and security, economics, and socio-cultural dimensions to fully benefit the people of ASEAN. Global challenges will also be addressed along with how to maintain ASEAN Centrality in the regional architecture.
H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, will join the 16th ASEAN Political-Security Community Council Meeting and the 20th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting on 12 November 2017 to prepare for the 31st ASEAN Summit. It is expected that the meeting will discuss cross-pillar issues (political and security, economics, and socio-cultural) including issues on development, concrete deliverables, and future plans on implementing connectivity within and outside the Southeast Asia region as well as promoting complementarities between the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of which Thailand is the ASEAN Coordinator.
