The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thailand Foundation, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Royal Thai Embassy in Amman launched a Muaythai Roadshow in Tel Aviv and Amman respectively. The Roadshow was led by His Excellency Mr. Chaisiri Anamarn, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and composed of a Muaythai Boran demonstration team coached by Mr. Wittawat Ka-Som (Kru Din) from Lanna Fighting Muaythai Training Camp, and Grand Master Sane Tubtimtong, a senior Muaythai coach.
The Roadshow started in Tel Aviv during 12 – 16 September 2017 and later in Amman during 16 – 21 September 2017. The activities consisted of introduction on history of Muaythai, Wai-Kru ceremony, demonstrations of traditional Muaythai and workshops. These activities familiarised the residents in Israel and Jordan with the historical and cultural backgrounds of Muaythai, Mae Mai Muaythai (the art of self-defense) and technical skills that focus on brain power rather than mere use of force. The Roadshow was warmly received by over 1,000 participants, which included young Muaythai enthusiasts, Muaythai athletes and local media.
Also, the team met with National Olympic Committees (NOC), namely the Olympic Committee of Israel and the Jordan Olympic Committee, and also other Muaythai counterparts in Israel and Jordan to discuss about the cooperation on Muaythai in each country as well as to seek for the support to bring Muaythai towards the Olympic Games.
In Jordan, the team had the honour to be given an opportunity to meet with Her Royal Highness Princess Iman bint Al-Hussein, a half-sister to King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein, who has started practicing Muaythai for 6 months, and to present Her Royal Highness a Muay Boran demonstration and Muaythai techniques.
The Muaythai Roadshow has an aim to promoting “Thainess” through the art of Muaythai, as well as to raise an awareness of the authenticity of Muaythai techniques and styles in Isralel and Jordan.
