On 12 September 2017, Mr. Akira Higuchi, Chairman of Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly, Japan, along with a delegation from Fukuoka Prefecture, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, on the occasion of his visit to Thailand. Mr. Higuchi visited Thailand with a group of businessmen from Fukuoka as part of a 570-person Japanese business delegation led by H.E. Mr. Hiroshige Seko, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, at the invitation of H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. The delegation’s visit also marked the special occasion of the 130th anniversary of Thailand – Japan diplomatic relations.
 
During their discussion, both sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen overall cooperation and relations between Thailand and Fukuoka, such as in environmental protection, education, and digital content industries. Furthermore, the Japanese side expressed their desire for Thailand to open a Consulate General in Fukuoka Prefecture.
