The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 2nd Session of the Thai – Czech Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation (JEC) between 21 – 23 August 2017, which was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Vladimír Bärtl, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic.
 
Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation in the areas of mutual interests, namely trade and investment, industry, tourism, energy, environment, infrastructure, technical cooperation and trilateral cooperation with particular emphasis on the CLMV countries. The Czech side expressed interest to investing in infrastructure, including airport expansion and the Light Rail Train project in Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Khonkaen. Additionally, the Czech side also offered the sharing of knowledge of technology in the field of STI, waste-to-energy programs, defence, and technical cooperation.
 
Moreover, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade led a business delegation to Thailand, which included the President of the Confederation of the Czech Republic. The business sectors of both sides also agreed to increase direct contact, exchange of visits, and participation in each other’s trade fairs and exhibitions.
