Secretary of State of the United States to pay an Official Visit to Thailand

          The Honorable Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State of the United States of America, will pay an official visit to Thailand on 8 August 2017 as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. This will be his first visit to Thailand as Secretary of State.
          The purpose of this visit is to pay respect to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on behalf of the Government of the United States. Secretary Tillerson is scheduled to sign the book of condolences in remembrance of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace.
          The Secretary of State is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Government House, as well as hold a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This visit will provide the opportunity for both sides to discuss issues of mutual benefit and interest including bilateral relations, regional and international matters, including preparation for the eventual visit to the United States by the Prime Minister of Thailand at the invitation of the President of the United States.
