The Honourable Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China will pay an official visit to Thailand on 3 - 5 August 2017 as guest of H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand as she has just assumed her office on 1 July 2017. The key objective of the visit is to further strengthen ties between Thailand and Hong Kong.
The main program of her visit will be on 4 August 2017. Mrs. Lam is scheduled to pay respect to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and pay a courtesy call on H. E. General Prayut Chan-o-Cha, Prime Minister of Thailand and H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand.
She is also scheduled to meet with H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs and other economic ministers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
of Thailand during which the two sides will discuss how to expand and deepen cooperation in potential areas, particularly trade, investment, creative economy, Eastern Economic Corridor, Thailand 4.0, digital and tourism. Mrs. Lam is also scheduled to meet the private sector in Thailand to explore opportunities for Hong Kong especially among mainland Southeast Asia (CLMVT) and the next generation of industries.
Mrs. Lam was elected to be the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR on 26 March 2017. It is the first official visit to Thailand by the Chief Executive of Hong Kong since the handover in 1997. It is the second visit to Thailand for Mrs. Lam who, as the Chief Secretary for Administration, visited the Kingdom on 4 - 6 September 2013. Thailand is one of the first overseas trips of the Chief Executive right after her inauguration as the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR on 1 July 2017. Prior to her visit to Thailand, Mrs. Lam paid a visit to Singapore on 2 - 3 August 2017.
